Electric service in Southern Indiana is provided by three companies, Duke Energy Indiana and two cooperatives, Clark County REMC and Harrison REMC, both part of The Touchstone Energy Cooperatives.

Duke Energy Indiana is an investor owned public utility servicing a large portion of Indiana. The company has been ranked consistently in the top ten investor-owned utilities nationwide for electric generating efficiency. Their Gallagher Station coal fired generating plant is located on the Ohio River in Floyd County. Duke Energy Indiana's professional economic development department is one of the most active and aggressive teams in the State of Indiana. Recognizing economic development as the key to Indiana's future, the company makes substantial commitments of people and resources to the growth of the industrial and commercial base of the communities served.

Clark County REMC, established in 1939, is an electric cooperative providing electric service to more than 15,000 members located in Clark, Floyd, Scott, Jefferson and Washington Counties. The REMC is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative governed by a seven-member board of directors elected by REMC members.

The REMC purchases electricity from Hoosier Energy. Hoosier Energy is a generation and transmission cooperative serving 16 REMC's in central and Southern Indiana through two coal-powered generating plants. The REMC offers competitive commercial and industrial rates and power quality control.

The REMC is also a source of communication products and services such as Internet, Pagers and PSC phones. Service extends beyond the operation of the electric distribution system through a commitment to area community activities through personal involvement in clubs, civic and school organizations.

Harrison REMC serves the western portion of Floyd County and operates much like its counterpart in Clark County.
