Southern Indiana is served by two Class One railroads, CSX and Norfolk Southern. These carriers provide interchanges with Illinois Central, Paducah & Louisville, Indiana Rail Road, and CP Rail System/Soo Line.
CSX maintains a switching yard in Louisville, just minutes away from Clark and Floyd Counties. Norfolk Southern maintain a switching yard in New Albany. Piggyback service is available at Norfolk Southern's intermodal yard in Louisville (Buechel, Kentucky) which can be reached within 10-15 minutes.
One Class Three railroad serves the area: Louisville & Indiana Railroad Company provides service from Southern Indiana south to Louisville and north as far as Indianapolis. The company maintains a switching yard in Jeffersonville. Flexi-Flow, bulk transfer from rail to truck for plastics and other dry bulk commodities, is available.
The Clark Maritime Center in Jeffersonville offers companies intraport shortline that provides on-site switching services through M.G. Rail, while The Southern Indiana Railroad provides short line service in Clark County.
Daily switching service is available on all lines.
