Preliminary Metro Manufacturing Alliance Meeting deemed a great success by all who attended.

09.12.2008

The inaugural meeting of 1SI’s Metro Manufacturing Alliance was a strong success. Thirty-three representatives from a diverse group of area manufacturing companies offered a number of great suggestions for the goals of the Alliance. These proposals are all related to the challenges faced by local manufacturing companies. From employee development to quality certifications, the concerns raised by this group are already being addressed.

One of the most important benefits the Alliance offers Manufacturers is to meet and discuss issues with their peers. Through surveys and one-on-one meetings we learned that most manufacturing companies in the area don’t have the opportunity to communicate with one another, but could gain greatly from that type of contact. “That’s why we put it together,” stated Kathleen Crowley, 1SI’s Business Retention and Expansion Director.

Another advantage is the sharing of procedures, such as best practices. At the next meeting, Karen Roe, Administrative Manager for Chemtrusion, will be presenting her company’s accomplished Safety Program. Presentations will also be made by local universities regarding their internship programs.

The primary goal of this group is to provide a place where manufacturing companies can connect – without anything being sold to them. All Kentuckiana Metro area manufacturing companies are invited to attend. The Alliance is not limited to Southern Indiana.

The next Metro Manufacturing Alliance meeting will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 18th, 2008. To register to attend, please contact Lynne Brannon @ 812.945.0266 or email her at lynneb@1si.org.
