Agency Mission Statement or Description:

Communities In Schools of Clark County (CISCC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to link community resources that are needed to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life. In 2005, in partnership with the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana, we received a CAPE grant from the Lilly Endowment that allowed us to expand the programs and services we provide. Our main goal is to help make sure the basic needs of students are being met so that they can be successful in school.

Economic Impact:

Through Project 3, 2, 1 Read, CISCC recruited and trained over 130 volunteers to read with students in supported schools during the 2008/2009 school year. Those volunteers donated 2528 hours of service and gave away 2512 brand new books to the students with whom they worked, bringing the financial value of just that one program to $59, 984.00. Each year CISCC’s Bare Necessities Program provides needy families with over $1000.00 worth of gift cards to be used at local businesses to purchase food, clothing, shoes, and hygiene items.

Communities In Schools serves hundreds of Clark County students and their families each year. By offering programs such as Homework Clubs, In-School Tutoring, Project 3, 2, 1 READ, Service Learning Clubs, Free Vision Screenings, Individual Therapy and Wrap Around Social Services, CISCC collaborates with the school systems to assist in educating the workforce and consumers of the future. By linking schools and families with much needed community resources, CISCC helps maintain emotional and economic stability in families throughout Clark County.
