U.S. EPA Visits Nu-Yale to Observe Green Cleaning Technology
Nu-Yale Cleaners, with locations throughout the “Kentuckiana” area, were honored last week to host representatives of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from Washington D C. and an engineering team. The purpose of this visit was to observe the Solvair Cleaning System in conjunction with the agency’s efforts to observe the available alternatives to traditional cleaning. Nu-Yale owner, Gary Maloney is thrilled to have the chance to host them at their process plant in Jeffersonville, IN and to discuss his operation and the Solvair technology.
On a state and local level, Nu-Yale has been recognized several times by the State of Indiana and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM). The company received a $50,000 grant from the state when they purchased their first Solvair machine and became the first business in both Indiana and Kentucky to have this cleaning technology. "We appreciate the forward thinking of the State of Indiana and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. This grant has allowed Nu-Yale Cleaners to set the standard for dry cleaning in America," said owner, Gary Maloney.
Nu-Yale launched the “Glacier Cleaning” program to promote the Solvair process and Gary said consumer demand was a factor in NuYale’s decision to make the investment. “We wanted to meet the needs of the consumer,” he said. “And the consumers were saying, ‘We want to be more environmentally friendly.’”
Nu-Yale recently received the 2009 Indiana Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence in Pollution Prevention. "Along with being on the forefront of changing the industry, this machine also provides better quality and uses no heat to dry the clothes. Nu-Yale feels that this has put us 10 years ahead of the industry. It is great when Indiana can lead the nation in a positive way," explains Gary.
Nu-Yale Cleaners now has four Solvair machines installed and has phased out conventional cleaning. For more information on Nu-Yale Cleaners, please visit www.nuyale.com and you can become a fan of the business on Facebook at http://tiny.cc/RXwLC.
