Floyd County Current makes its debut

FLOYD COUNTY, INDIANA  — A magazine debuting this month in Southern Indiana will showcase the county’s residents and communities, brimming with extraordinary people and captivating stories.

Floyd County Current will be direct mailed to homes across the region with complimentary copies also available via racks at high-traffic locations. The glossy magazine will be published five times in 2010. It is produced by the award-winning editorial staff of The (New Albany) Tribune (Hoosier State Press Editorial Excellence winner 2007, 2009) which is owned by Community Newspaper Holdings Inc.

The newspaper and magazine’s publisher is Steve Kozarovich. The editor of the magazine is Roni Montgomery.

A previous incarnation of Current magazine covered issues across Southern Indiana but Kozarovich said Floyd County Current is all uniquely local content concentrating on this historic small community on the Ohio River, just west of Louisville, that has shown recent signs of a renaissance.

“It’s home to more than 200 years of history, and we have the elegant mansions and impressively large historic downtown district as reminders of past eras of success,” Kozarovich said. “Now, new businesses are opening in downtown New Albany and on the suburban corridors, IU Southeast’s growth and incoming industry are good long-term economic signs locally. Plus, Floyd County is extremely valuable to local and regional advertisers when you examine its demographics and household incomes.”

Content of the now available Holiday 2009 issue features local residents, business owners and service groups. Highlights include:

  • A SHOURDS THING: A cover story featuring Floyds Knobs’ Rita Hudson Shourds and her compelling story of success over cancer and leading one of the fastest growing regional colleges.
  • Health advice for facing the holidays.
  • Spirited wine and beer suggestions from area connoisseurs.
  • Appetizing delights for your party from local chefs.
  • A unique home of interest as told by the owner that has had her remodeling hands full.
  • Photos of recent social gatherings.
  • And much more….

“Beyond the basic sharing of information and lifestyle trends, we are providing a showcase for this community to other communities and future guests,” Kozarovich said. “Floyd County is worthy of its own spotlight.”
