15th annual International Festival at IU Southeast to focus on world cuisine

NEW ALBANY, IN (Feb. 22, 2010) – International cuisine will be the main dish at the 15th annual International Festival at Indiana University Southeast.

This year’s event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, in the Hoosier Room in University Center at IU Southeast.

The festival will be catered by the University’s new chef, Dylan Starkey, an Indiana University graduate in Anthropology and former owner of the Blue Peppermill Café in Clarksville. Starkey has worked at several well-known restaurants in the area including Azalea’s, Fuzzy Zoeller’s Covered Bridge, and the Derby Café at Churchill Downs.

“I have a passion for international cuisine,” Starkey said. “It is wonderful to have this opportunity to showcase the multicultural impact of IU Southeast within the community. I think festival attendees will be pleased at the variety and appeal of the menu for this event.”

Guests will be served a four course sampling of international fare including dishes like black bean falafels with tzatziki sauce, kimchi, Mediterranean couscous, spicy ground nut stew, chicken Adobo, baklava, and crème brulee.

Guests can also sample entertainment by some of the region’s finest international performers including the St. Xavier High School Jungle Drummers, Flamenco Louisville, and Heartstrings Celtic band. Representatives from a range of internationally focused, local organizations will also be in attendance.

Tickets are $7 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens. Proceeds go to benefit IU Southeast’s Overseas Study Scholarships.

Tickets for the International Festival may be pre-purchased at the IU Southeast Information Desk in University Center. For more information, call (812) 941-2333. Tickets will also be sold at the door on the day of the event. Free parking will be available.
