The Southern Indiana/Louisville area is home to nearly 200 parks (including the 14-acre “Great Lawn” on Louisville’s waterfront), over 200 public tennis courts, nearly 50 public golf courses (including courses designed by Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Fuzzy Zoeller), numerous swimming pools, fishing lakes, horseback riding trails, fitness trails, archery ranges, outdoor amphitheaters and two astronomical observatories.

Eight Southern Indiana parks and recreational areas made Business First's list of the “Area's Largest Top 25 Parks and Recreation Areas.” They are listed as follows by their respective rankings:

  Harrison-Crawford State Forest, Corydon, Indiana
  Clark State Forest, Henryville, Indiana
  Jackson-Washington State Forest, Brownstown, Indiana
  Charlestown State Park, Charlestown, Indiana
  O'Bannon Woods State Park, Corydon, Indiana
  Falls of the Ohio State Park, Clarksville, Indiana
  Deam Lake State Recreation Area, Borden Indiana
  Lapping Memorial Park, Clarksville, Indiana


Four Indiana golf courses made Business First's Top 23 “Area’s Toughest Golf Courses Ranked by USGA.” They are listed as follows by their respective rankings:

  Chariot Run Golf Course, Laconia, Indiana
  Covered Bridge Golf Club, Sellersburg, Indiana
  Jeffersonville Elks Golf Club, Jeffersonville, Indiana
  Hidden Creek Golf Club, Sellersburg, Indiana
