The cost of doing business in Indiana is very favorable as the state’s total business taxes are lower than our adjoining states. This is due in part to Indiana having one of the best workers’ compensation rates and unemployment tax rates. In addition, the state’s average weekly wage is very competitive.
In fact, in 2009 Indiana received the following national acknowledgements for its competitive business climate:
-
Indiana ranks first in the Midwest and seventh nationally for low business costs (Forbes magazine, September)
-
Indiana ranks first in the Midwest and 12th nationally for business tax climate (Tax Foundation, September)
-
Indiana is the best state in the Midwest for business and 11th best nationally (Chief Executive magazine, March)
-
Indiana has the ninth best business climate in the nation (Site Selection magazine, November)
